Most states follow one of two common approaches to automating the warrant process: integrated Warrant Management Applications or Warrant Workflow Models that use legacy systems to exchange data at key events. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.

  Advantages  Disadvantages Examples
Warrant Management Application
  • Provides "one stop shopping" for all phases of the warrant process.
  • Simplifies warrant request, authorization, and issuance.
  •  Requires use of a separate system.
  • Many not fully integrate with state or national wanted person systems.

Warrant Workflow
  •  Integrates seamlessly into each line of the business system.
  • Leverages existing investments in systems and technology.
  •  Integration with requesting agency systems can be difficult because local law enforcement agencies may use many different records management systems.
  • Ensuring synchronization of data on different systems can be a challenge.
